So there you have it, folks—my epic fishing escapade in Bahia de los Angeles! From heart-pounding battles with barracuda to unexpected bonds with locals, every moment was a reminder of the sheer thrill and generosity that this coastal paradise has to offer. As I bid adios to the tranquil shores, I left with a fridge full of fish and a heart full of memories. Until next time, tight lines and big smiles, my fellow anglers!

Shore Fishing: Bahia De Los Angeles

Barracuda on: 22 gram Bucktail Gold Spoon, Wire Leader.

California Halibut on: 1 oz Jighead with grey shad body

As I rolled up to Playa La Gringa, the scene was straight out of a nature documentary. Pelicans were going nuts, swooping down for their lunch of sardines. And guess who decided to crash the party on my first cast? A barracuda! Now, some folks swear by barracuda, but with the risk of getting a bellyache from ciguatera, I wasn’t about to take any chances. But hey, that didn’t stop me from joining the pelican parade down the beach, casting and reeling like a madman. Before I knew it, I had bagged six barracudas and a couple of grunts, not to mention witnessing someone haul in a California Halibut like a boss.

Chasing Halibut:

As the sun began to dip, I caught up with a local angler who was all about chasing the big boys with a heavy metal jig. The language barrier was difficult, but I understood "Andele, Amigo! Piscado, piscado!" We teamed up and hit the shoreline, following the baitball migration like it was our personal treasure hunt. Sure, we didn’t snag that elusive halibut, but you know what we did catch? A boatload of barracuda! I tossed a bunch over to my new amigo for him to feed to his dogs. I kept some jacks, grunts, and cabrilla. The tide was low and the beach was covered in starfish. All my catches were on an 80-gram casting jig

A Random Act of Awesome:

Just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better, my new fishing buddy asked for a lift home. Cue the cautious side-eye from me and my partner. But you know what? We decided to roll with it, and I'm glad we did. Not only did we make a friend, but we scored showers and an open invite to park at his place anytime. Talk about hospitality that reels you in!

Eat What You Catch:

The next day, I ventured out towards the point, past the intertidal zone reserve, and hit the jack mackerel Jack-pot. These bad boys were practically jumping onto my hook, and you better believe I made the most of it! I snagged a few for some mouthwatering sashimi—It couldn't get any fresher!
